Antonio Patuelli, the
president of Italian banking association ABI, said Monday that
the hypothesis of Italy dropping the euro should not be part of
the country's political debate. "Quitting the euro would be
crazy and it would entail devastating effects on the public
debt," Patuelli told a conference in Ravenna. "Imagine the
interest rates of the time of the lire on the current debt".
He added that it would be best if "no one talks about it again".
