Deputy Premier and Labour and
Industry Minister Luigi Di Maio said Friday that he did not want
to be made to look a liar as a row rumbled on between his 5-Star
Movement (M5S) and its coalition partner, the League, over the
government's 'fiscal peace' plan.
He was speaking after Interior Minister and fellow Deputy
Premier Matteo Salvini said he did not want to be made to "look
a fool" over the case.
The government has been rocked after Deputy Premier and
Labour and Industry Minister Luigi Di Maio said the decree
containing the fiscal peace had been manipulated without the
consent of the M5S to broaden the scope for people to close
disputes with the tax authorities.
Salvini had said "(Premier Giuseppe) Conte was reading and Di
Maio was writing" when the relevant part of the decree was being
settled.
"Was there a statement in the decree read out on Monday
evening with the criminal amnesty inside? No, because that was
the subject of a political meeting and Conte read the general
terms of the agreement in the cabinet meeting," Di Maio said on
Facebook.
"I don't want to be made to look a liar and, for that reason,
when they say I was distracted, I say No".
