A gag order on the torture and murder
of Italian student Giulio Regeni is included in a "secret plan"
hatched by the Egyptian interior ministry to deal with the media
in general and more specifically a crisis brought on by two
journalists at a trade union office in Cairo, the Associated
Press reported Tuesday. The request for the prosecutor-general
to censor news on Regeni was sent to the media by mistake. Italy
is pressing Egypt to provide more information on the mysetrious
death of Regeni, whose mutilated body was found on February 3
after he disappeared on January 25, the heavily policed fifth
anniversary of the uprising that toppled former strongman Hosni
Mubarak.
