Italy's proposed migration
compact to help African countries of origin and transit does not
depend on Eurobonds, which are stiffly opposed by Germany,
Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said Tuesday. "We'll see if
there are other ways of funding the plan," he said, voicing
satisfaction that it had been well received by EU authorities.
But he said Italy was against Germany's idea of hiking petrol
taxes to pay for the plan. "Today I will talk about it with my
German counterpart Thomas de Maiziere," he said.
