Interior Minister Angelino Alfano
on Tuesday denied a report by German daily Bild that the
authorities feared Islamist terrorists were planning attacks on
European beaches, including Italian ones. "I have no other
evaluation to add to that of the denial that has already been
issued," he said, referring to an earlier statement from Italian
intelligence services. "I would not want there to be alarmism
that hurts our tourism without adding anything to security,"
Alfano said. Intelligence sources also denied a report that
Italian intelligence services had sent on information about the
possibility that terrorists disguised as beach hawkers could
blow themselves up.
