The government was met by
rock-throwing leftist militants and by Naples Mayor Luigi de
Magistris's charge of "expropriating" his role when it recently
presented its revamp plan for the former steel plant at Bagnoli,
Premier Matteo Renzi said Thursday, noting that the city council
had today approved the plan "because everyone is fine with
slogans, then there's reality that is much better and more
serious". He said "full steam ahead, Bagnoli will be another
symbol of Italy being freed up". De Magitris refused to meet
Renzi during his visit to the city and refused to take part in
the meeting of the steering committee that approved the
multi-billion-euro plan to clean up and relaunch the site with
projects including a revamped science park.
