Cesare Damiano, the head of
the Lower House's labour committee, on Wednesday disputed an
estimate by social security and pensions agency INPS that a
mechanism to enable some women workers to retire would early
cost two billion euros by 2023.
The so-called 'opzione donna' (woman option) mechanism
allows women close to retirement age to stop working earlier if
they take a cut of around 30% in their monthly pension.
"INPS is talking about over two billion euros (in
financial coverage) up to 2023, a figure that we consider to be
excessive," Damiano said.
Damiano said that the mechanism should not require any
addition funding because of the cuts the early retirees would
take to the pensions.
