German Foreign Minister
Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Wednesday announced a joint
initiative by France, Italy and Germany for a "fairer
distribution" of migrants in the EU, to be put to an upcoming
foreign ministers' meeting in Luxembourg. The three countries
have been among the most vocal in calling for mandatory quotas
to share the burden of waves of migrants and refugees coming
across the Mediterranean and through the Balkans.
