Left-wing Tuscany regional
councillor Tommaso Fattori said Monday he will grow a cannabis
plant in his office "to open a discussion" on the legalisation
of cannabis and support its "therapeutic use" as envisaged under
a regional law approved in 2012.
"In Italy, we are further behind than in the rest of the
civilized world where anti-prohibitionism goes forward and the
first step is the therapeutic use of cannabis," said Fattori.
"We will make this a central point to make the Tuscan law
effective".
"I have decided to take a seed and plant it, from next
week, in a vase on my desk in the Regional Council," he said.
Fattoris added that he knew he would be breaking the law
"but I want to do it in the name of a battle for civilisation".
