The health ministry has come up
with a new list of services and procedures the national health
service must provide free of charge, known in Italy as essential
care levels (LEAs), sources said Tuesday.
The ministry has allocated an additional 470 million euros
to cover new procedures on the list.
These will reportedly include epidural painkilling shots
for women giving birth, medically assisted procreation using
both parent and donor gametes, and neonatal screening.
The overall national health service budget for this year
is 111 billion euros, up two billion euros from the last budget
year.
