The Ambassador of Italy to Slovakia Catherine Flumiani attended the opening of the first exhibition entirely dedicated to Giovanni Segantini in Slovakia, at the Bratislava Castle.
Organised by the Italian Cultural Institute of Bratislava in collaboration with the Historical Museum - Slovak National Museum, the G. Segantini of the Municipality of Arco and the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, the exhibition is a unique opportunity to admire the splendid works of one of the most famous and revolutionary Italian artists of the second half of the 19th century.
The opening was also attended by the Councillor for Culture of the Municipality of Arco, Guido Trebo, and the Head of the G. Segantini, Giancarla Tognoni. "This initiative bears witness to our joint commitment to the promotion and dissemination of the art and culture of our territories," said Councillor Trebo.
Giovanni Segantini is one of the greatest exponents of pointillism, and is also famous for the depth of his artistic vision. Alessandra Sanniti, director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Bratislava, remarked: 'His decision to move away from the prevailing academic trends of his time, in order to get closer to everyday life, nature and the spiritual dimension, makes him an artist with an extremely contemporary sensibility'.
The exhibition is one of the highlights of the 17th Italian Festival in Slovakia 'Dolce Vitaj'. "Its realisation confirms the commitment of the Italian institutions in Slovakia to guarantee a high quality cultural offer and to reach an ever wider audience, even outside the capital," Ambassador Flumiani emphasised.
