Prada said Wednesday it will go
fur-free starting with the spring/summer 2020 women's
collections.
From then on, it said, it will no longer use animal furs to
make new products.
The decision by the Italian fashion house was announced along
with the Fur Free Alliance (FFA), which groups over 50
organisations in more than 40 countries.
Prada said the decision was "the fruit of a positive dialogue
between the Group, the FFA, the Anti-Vivisection League (LAV)
and the Humane Society of the United States.
Miuccia Prada said it was an important milestone.
"The research and development of alternative materials will
enable the company to explore new frontiers of creativity and
respond, at the same time, to the demands of more responsible
products".
Prada is just the latest in a long line of fashion groups to
go fur-free.
Others include Giorgio Armani, Versace, Burberry, Michael
Kors, Ralph Lauren and Gucci, as well as the fur-free pioneers
Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood.
