Italy wants eight important artworks
plundered by the Nazis back from Belgrade, where they have been
held for years by the national museum of Serbia despite long
Italian entreaties to return them.
The paintings, which Italy says are owned by the Italian State,
include works by Tintoretto, Paolo Veneziano and Spinello
Aretino.
The works are from the fifteenth, sixteenth and 17th centuries,
Italy says.
Rome now says there may be as many as 17 Nazi-looted works held
by Belgrade.
