Rossella Menegazzo will be the head of
the culture sector of the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka.
A professor of the history of East Asian Art at Milan
University, Menegazzo is well known for having curated important
shows and exhibitions in Italy, Japan and other parts of the
world.
The most recent is 'The floating world. Ukiyoe. Visions from
Japan' which has just opened at Rome's Palazzo Braschi.
"An Expo in Japan in 2025 is a particularly precious opportunity
for Italy," Menegazzo said.
"Although Japanese culture is so distant from Italian culture in
terms of the difference in values and forms, it is complementary
in many ways.
"Osaka is the ideal platform from which to speak to the whole of
East Asia about a vision of the future in which Italian
know-how, the quality of its workmanship, its human and life
values are at the center of technical and scientific development
and encounters with others.
"I hope that Italy, as a country, will also be able to transmit
the idea of man and knowledge with the globally recognized value
of 'living treasure' in our talents, valorizing not only the
great names of our history, but also making way for those who
are emerging and those who will flourish in the future".
Active in the organization of international conferences,
Rossella Menegazzo is the curator of exhibitions and catalogs on
art, photography and design in collaboration with top Italian
and foreign museums.
She also contributes to a number of Italian cultural publication
on the subjects of oriental art and culture.
"Rossella Menegazzo's experience will be an important source of
support for the creation of a program of cultural activities
capable of presenting the extraordinary tradition of Italian
know-how to the vast Asian public and, at the same time,
promoting the vast range of what our university and research
system has to offer," said Mario Vattani, Commissioner General
for Italy at Expo.
"This Expo will be dedicated to young people and their futures:
creating synergies and strategic partnerships with Japanese
universities is one of our objectives. We will work together to
promote experiences and exchanges between students in line with
the framework agreement signed in July 2023 by the
Commissioner's office with the Higher Education and Research
Ministry (MUR), the conference of Italian university rectors
(Crui), (art, music and dance body) Afam and CoPer".
