Former Rome opera chief Carlo Fuortes,
ex Rai state broadcaster CEO, former Rome Casa della Musica head
and current head of Naples' San Carlo opera house, the oldest in
the world, was named superintendent of Florence's iconic Maggio
Musicale (Musical May) classical music festival on Tuesday.
Fuortes, 64, began his term as San Carlo superintendent last
September.
The Rome-born cultural manager left Rai last May citing
disagreements with new government policy and appointments at the
broadcaster.
HIs appointment as Maggio chief was made by Florence Mayor
Gennaro Sangiuliano, Florence Mayor Dario Nardella, and other
top cultural officials in the Tuscan capital.
