British novelist Zadie Smith on
Tuesday got the seal of the city from Milan.
Mayor Giuseppe Sala hailed her as the "author of multicultural
London, always in tension between tradition and modernity, just
like Milan."
He added "you'll always be welcome in Milan".
White Teeth author Smith, who lived in Rome for a time, thanked
Sala in Italian saying "I love this country and I love Milan.
The only thing that would have made me happier than this seal d
if you has handed me an Italian passport to make me European
again".
Smith's latest novel The Fake, her first historical novel, is
just out from Mondadori.
