Italy's three representatives at the
Cannes Film Festival are not in the running for any prizes,
sources told ANSA Saturday on the basis of a list drafted by the
jury chaired by Swedish director Ruben Ostlund, of Triangle of
Sadness fame, on Friday night.
Neither Marco Bellocchio's Rapito (Kidnapped), 2001 winner Nanni
Moretti's Il sol dell'avvenire (A Brighter Tomorrow), nor Alice
Rohrwacher's La chimera has been pencilled in for any award, the
sources said.
The bookies' favourites for the Golden palm and other gongs are
the latest works by three European greats, Ken Loach, Ari
Kaurismaki and Wim Wenders.
Th sources, however, highlighted that Italian cinema had
nonetheless gained great prominence in an edition of the
festival where the competition has been among the fiercest and
highest quality in years.
Having three films in competition is a record for Italy, they
noted.
