Alexander Pereira on Monday quit as
superintendent of Florence's Maggio Musicale Foundation amid an
expenses case.
Vienna-born Pereira, 75. had been head of the iconic Maggio
music festival since August 2019.
He tendered his resignation in a letter sent to Florence Mayor
Dario Nardella, also president of the Foundation, and to the
institution's board members.
On 30 January, Pereira himself announced that he had received a
'notice of guarantee' for an investigation by the Florentine
prosecutor's office into expenses he had incurred and charged to
the organisation.
