Italian actress Giovanna Ralli will
get the David di Donatello award for career achievement at the
67th edition of the Italian Oscars on May 3, the president of
the Italian cinema academy - David prizes, Piera Detassis,
announced Wednesday.
The prize-giving will be broadcast live from Cinecittà by Rai
state broadcaster.
Detassis said Ralli, 87, "in the course of a multi-faceted
career, put her verve and dramatic impetus at the service of
great auteurs like Mario Monicelli, Ettore Scola, Roberto
Rossellini, and Vittorio De Sica, flanking legendary partners
like (Ugo) Tognazzi, Totò, Vittorio Gassman, (Marcello)
Mastroianni and (Alberto) Sordi.
"The high points of her filmography, which started with Aldo
Fabrizi, are La vita agra by Carlo Lizzani, the immortal
character of Elide Catenacci in C'eravamo tanto amati, the
Hollywood films of Blake Edwards, and the scandalous role of a
lesbian, alongside Anouk Aimée, in La fuga by Paolo Spinola,
performed with courage in 1964.
"Ralli has been many women and many protagonists, combing
refined beauty and Trasteverine tradition, brio and modern
maliaise.
"This Career David celebrates her return to cinema in Marcel!,
