A preview of the photo exhibition "Pink Floyd - Live at Pompeii" will be held in the amphitheatre of the archaeological site on June 21.
The visual and audio journey through the history and music of Pink Floyd, organised by Pompeii's supervisors and director Adrian Maben, revisits the highlights of the English rock band's career, above all the moment it performed a closed-door concert in Pompeii in 1971.
The preview, to mark the "Festival of Music" organised by the Culture and Tourism Ministry, has been set up ahead of the concert by former Pink Floyd vocalist David Gilmour scheduled for July 7 and 8 in the amphitheatre of the ancient city, which was buried by an eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.
The exhibition will then be open to the public from July 9-11 and then from July 18 onwards throughout the summer period until the end of September.
The underground passages of the amphitheatre will be made accessible to the public and following the exhibition they will be a permanent location for future photo shows. The roughly 80 metres of passageways were opened only in 1971 for the band's concert and for filming in 1984.
Sections of the exhibition are dedicated to Pompeii and music, the legendary 1971 concert and Pompeii in modern times, through its slow growth helped by restoration and promotional campaigns.
