The 18th edition of 'La Notte
della Taranta', a festival dedicated to the folk-music
traditions of the Salento area in the southern Puglia region was
to open on Monday night in Corigliano d'Otranto.
The festival's closing concert is scheduled in the town of
Melpignano on August 22.
Over 60 bands and artists from around the world are
scheduled to perform in 16 concerts across Salento as part of
the festival, including Nigerian troubador 'Bombino' , known as
the "Jimi Hendrix of the desert", 'Mari Boine' from Norway, and
'Tuckè' from Turkey.
Among performers at the final concert will be Italian
singer Ligabue, Paul Simonon, bass guitarist for the clash and
Anna Phoebe, a violinist with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
