(ANSA) Rome, December 12 - Italian legislation obliging movie companies to submit firearms used on film sets to official ballistic tests will not take effect for more than a year, easing the way for filming of the next James Bond spy film in the Eternal City.
The status of firearms used on film sets was addressed by the government in an amendment to its 2015 budget.
That could have meant that all such stage weapons would have had to undergo extensive obligatory checks.
However, the Italian government at the last minute changed the text of the amendment so that the new gun controls will only take effect from Dec. 31, 2015.
The delay is evidently good news for producers of the next Bond film, scenes of which are to be shot in Rome.
Extensive use of hand guns by Agent 007 and his enemies might have entailed lengthy delays to the production had the new legislation come into effect immediately, cinema sources said.
