The mother of Saman Abbas, an 18-year-old Italian-Pakistani woman killed by her family at Novellara near Reggio Emilia on the night between 30 April and 1 May 2021, on Wednesday agreed to her extradition from Pakistan to Italy after her arrest in Pakistan at the end of May, sources said on Wednesday.
The woman, Nazia Shaheen, who is believed to have strangled her daughter after a row over her wanting to leave home, consented to her extradition and did not apply for bai,. sources said after the first hearing before the District Court in Islamabad for the woman who has been sentenced to life in Italy along with her husband Shabbar Abbas.
Saman's uncle, Danish Hasnain, was sentenced to 14 years.
It was initially reported that the family killed Saman for refusing an arranged marriage but a court said it was because she wanted to go and live with her boyfriend in a Western-style arrangement.
