Istat said Monday that a survey of
11-to-19-year-olds suggests reversing Italy's declining birth
rate is possible, with 69.4% of the children and young adults in
this age range saying want to have children in the future.
The national statistics agency added that 74.5% of these young
people see their future in a couple, and most, 72.5%, would like
to get married.
It said 8.8% of the youngsters who want children would like just
one child, while 18.2% are thinking of three or more.
Istat said Italy's population aged 11-to-19 numbered 5.140 on
January 1, 2024, but said the number of people in this age range
is set to decline on the basis of current demographic trends.
