The age-old Tuscan tradition of 'wine
holes' is set to reach New York.
The custom of selling wine in glasses from holes in a building's
walls, eliminating the middleman innkeeper, dates back to the
17th century in Florence.
A vintner's at Williamsburg, Brooklyn, 'Please Tell Me', is to
trial the method of sale at weekends from April 10, selling the
wine in closed glasses to get round New York's ban on open
glasses of alcohol in public.
