A 15-month-old girl is missing at sea
after the migrant boat she was aboard capsized, possibly during
a rescue operation by the Mare Go NGO-run ship, in the
Mediterranean overnight, sources said.
The other 44 people on board the seven-metre iron boat,
including the child's mother, were saved.
The boat departed from Sfax, in Tunisia, late on Thursday and
the survivors said they paid 1,000 euros each for the crossing.
The boat capsized in Malta's search-and-rescue zone, the sources
said.
The Italian Coast Guard took the rescued migrants to Lampedusa.
At the time of writing, there had been 14 landings of migrant
groups on Italy's southernmost island on Saturday since midnight
for a total of 657 people.
