A 10-year-old Albanian boy is reading
books to a 55-year-old Italian neighbour and book lover who
recently lost her sight due to a serious illness in Verona.
Vicenza-born Paola Toldo told Il Giornale di Vicenza that "just
yesterday Erik sent me another recorded chapter, even though I
had told him not to worry about me and to focus on school and
play".
She said he was "attracted by ethical ideals, and fascinated by
the archaic terms he finds in the texts I choose".
Ms Toldo has for years been giving books to the boy, who lives
just across the landing from her in the Veneto city.
