Around 92% of Italian pupils aged 14
are proud that their country is part of the European Union,
slightly above the EU average of 91%, according to the latest
report of the IEA's International Civic and Citizenship
Education Study (ICCS).
It said 88% of Italian 14-year-olds personally feel part of the
EU, compared to a European average of 81%
The young people's faith in EU institutions was high too.
It said 70% had a great dead of faith in the European
Parliament, although this is down from 75% in 2016 and 79% in
2009.
The level is still well above the EU average of 62%.
Similarly, 68% have great faith in the European Commission, down
from 75% in 2016 and 2009, but above the EU average of 61%.
The report said the percentage of Italian students who have a
high level of confidence in the national government has fallen
to 53%, down from 57% in 2016 and 74% in 2009.
