Road accidents have dropped by 15.8%
in Bologna after a 30 kph speed limit was imposed a month ago,
the city council in the Emilian capital said Friday.
"The hoped-for decrease is therefore confirmed, in particular of
serious accidents and those involving pedestrians," said the
council.
In the first four weeks (15 January-11 February 2024), a total
of 186 accidents occurred on urban roads, including one
fatality, 122 with injuries (resulting in 144 people being
injured), none with injuries in a reserved prognosis and 63
without injuries.
In the same period in 2023, there were a total of 221 accidents,
three fatal, 139 accidents with injuries (178 people injured),
one with an injured person in a reserved prognosis and 78
without injuries.
Transport Minister Matteo Salvini has said the pilot scheme must
be extended to the whole country.
