An unidentified man knocked down five
just-installed 30 kph speed limits signs near Treviso on
Thursday, local papers reported Sunday.
The signs, part of a nationwide road safety drive that has seen
big protests against the new limits in Bologna and Rome, had
been placed just a little less than a day previously in Cappella
Maggiore (Treviso), for the safety of residents and pedestrians
on a narrow, winding road.
The mayor, Mariarosa Barazza, has announced that she will lodge
a complaint, and in the meantime will put the signs back in
place.
The man is being seen as an emulator of 'Fleximan', a new folk
hero who has been demolishing sped cameras across northern
Italy.
