Italian trade union confederations
CGIL and UIL on Monday confirmed Friday's 24-hour general strike
against the budget bill, rejecting earlier calls from the
country's strike watchdog to reschedule it.
"We confirm the proclamation of the general strike and its
modalities for the day of November 17," said CGIL and UIL.
"We do not agree with the decision taken by the commission of
guarantee," the unions added.
It is, they said, "an interpretation that, by failing to
recognize the regime of the general strike, in fact calls into
question the effective exercise of the right to strike, which is
enshrined in the Constitution for all workers".
Earlier UIL said it would not comply with the restrictions
requested by the strike authority on grounds the stoppage did
not meet the requirements for a general strike.
