Tuscany Governor Eugenio Giani on
Thursday warned the local population to remain "on alert" on
Thursday in consideration of further bad weather after Storm
Ciaran left eight people dead and caused at least half a billion
euro of damage across five provinces on November 2.
"I am worried because today is the most difficult day of this
week, after the disastrous event" of last week, Giani told Radio
Bruno.
"I want the entire population to be on the alert and ready to
evacuate if new problems arise in the affected areas," he added.
The central-northern region was on orange bad weather alert on
Thursday as a new storm front was set to hit the country.
Three regions - Emilia Romagna, Umbria and Sardinia - were
instead on yellow alert.
The situation in affected areas is exacerbated by soil
saturation due to last week's very heavy rainfall, increasing
the risk of mudslides and landslides and making it more likely
for rivers to burst their banks.
