A total of 783 migrants and refugees
have arrived on the Sicilian island of Lampedusa in 24 separate
landings since midnight on Friday.
The figures are updated to around 2 pm local time.
The last five boats to arrive carried between 25 and 55 people
reportedly from Morocco, Tunisia, Syria, Sudan, Chad, Gambia,
Ghana and Guinea.
They had all set said from Sfax in Tunisia.
The latest arrivals take to over 2,000 the number of people in
the Lampedusa hotspot, which has an official capacity of around
400 but has recently been reorganised to temporarily accommodate
many more.
A group of 100 people was due to be transferred off the island
by ferry to Porto Empedocle on the Sicilian mainland later on
Friday.
