In 2021 58.8% of women murder victims
in Italy were killed by their intimate partner or former
intimate partner, Istat said on Monday.
In 25.2% of cases, the murderer was another family member while
in 5.0% of cases the victim knew her murderer in another
capacity, according to the 2023 annual report 'Noi Italia. 100
statistics to understand the country we live in'.
Only in 11% of cases did no relationship emerge between the
murderer and the female victim.
Conversely for men in 2021 only 4.3% of murders took place
within the context of a current (3.8%) or past (0.5%) intimate
relationship.
In 16.8% of cases the murderer was another family member, while
in 43% of cases there was no relationship between the
perpetrator and the victim.
