The area of Emilia-Romagna hit by last month's floods that
killed 15 people was worth about a quarter of the region's GDP,
the E-R chapter of the industrial employers' group Confindustria
said Thursday.
Days of torrential rain led to flooding and landslides that
caused billions of euros in damage to crops, property and
infrastructure in the Emilia-Romagna region,
"The flood was a tragedy that hit a major part of our territory,
we estimate it was worth about a quarter of the regional GDP,",
said Annalisa Sassi, president of Confindustria Emilia-Romagna.
"The reactivity of our people and our territories," she observed
- will be strong. Reconstruction will provide further stimulus.
We, despite the tragedy, are confident that businesses will
recover stronger than before. The resilience is strong and,"
Sassi, concluded - "we can look ahead with great confidence".
