Two of the 11 Italian soldiers
injured in Monday's clashes in Zvecan, northern Kosovo, are to
return to Italy in the coming days after receiving initial
treatment, the defense ministry said on Wednesday.
Their condition was said to be improving.
The soldiers, belonging to the Ninth Alpine Regiment, had
intervened in conjunction with other KFOR (Kosovo force)
peacekeeing troops and Kosovar police to restore order and
protect public infrastructure during protests by ethnic Serbs
trying to prevent ethnic Albanian mayors elected on April 26 in
the majority Serb area from taking office.
19 Hungarian KFOR soldiers were also injured in the clashes,
including three by gunfire.
Their lives were not said to be in danger.
