The issue of migration to Europe must
be tackled in countries of origin, Premier Giorgia Meloni told
reporters after a meeting with her Czech counterpart in Prague
on Wednesday.
"Pursuing non-predatory cooperation with African countries is
also the most serious tool for tackling the migration crisis,"
said Meloni.
"Intelligent and far-sighted Prime Minister Fiala understands
that this issue must now inevitably be addressed at the European
level, and before it invades European territory," she continued.
The most "serious way" to solve this problem, said Meloni, is to
focus on shoring up the external dimension, by "working on a
serious policy of returns and, together with the countries of
origin and transit, to guarantee a right that has not always
been guaranteed: the right not to be forced to flee in search of
more favorable living conditions".
"This requires concrete actions on the part of the European
Commission, and we expect them to be taken before the next
European Council, which will address this matter," she
concluded.
