Pregnant bag snatchers and thieves
will no longer be left off with minor charges, Justice
Undersecretary Andrea Ostellari said after the Lower House
justice committee approved a reform of mitigating circumstances
on Thursday.
"At long last there will be a change and pregnancy will no
longer be an excuse to get off lightly," he said.
"Those who commit crimes will be sanctioned, while respecting
the rights of all, including the unborn child".
Rightwing League party justice committee caucus leader Jacopo
Morrone added that "even pregnant women, when they re-commit
crimes, will end up in prison".
He said the League had re-presented a bill on this.
