A court in Perugia has revoked a
pre-trial detention order for already incarcerated
hunger-striking anarchist leader Alfredo Cospito and five other
suspects in relation to a case concerning the contents of a
magazine publication, defence sources told Ansa Thursday.
Cospito and the other suspects face charges of incitement to
commit crimes, including for the purposes of terrorism as an
aggravating factor, and subversion of the democratic order in
relation to publication of an interview published by the
anarchist magazine 'Vetriolo'.
Cospito has been on hunger strike since October to protest
against the tough 41 bis prison regime that he is being held
under in relation to separate convictions for a bomb attack on a
Carabinieri police training academy in Piedmont in 2006 and for
a kneecapping attack in 2012.
His supporters have embarked on a wave of threats, acts of
vandalism and violent protests, including rioting in Turin in
early March and a firecracker explosion at the Italian consulate
in New York on Tuesday.
