Astorre died on Friday in the Senate offices in Palazzo Cenci.
He was 59.
"It is terrible news", said Senate Speaker Ignazio La Russa.
"We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic news of the
death of Senator Bruno Astorre. The entire Democratic community
rallies around his wife and family, his friends and all his
colleagues," said newly elected PD Secretary Elly Schlein.
The Rome Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation
into incitement to suicide as a standard procedure.
