An Arctic cold snap is gripping Italy
with sub-zero temperatures around the country and widespread ice
and snow.
A record low of -22.8 degrees celsius was recorded at Piani di
Pezza, 1,450 metres above sea level on the Sirente-Velino Massif
in Abruzzo.
At Campo Felice (1,538 metres), a popular ski resort for
Romands, the mercury dropped to -21.8° C while the temperature
at the Altopiano delle Cinque Miglia near the ski resort of
Rivisondoli in Abruzzo (1,250 metes) fell to -21.2° C .
The wave of polar air is set to break, however.
The Azores Anti-Cyclone will bring milder weather and sunny
conditions to most parts later this week, weather forecasters
say.
