(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 26 - The former director-general of
Calabria's culture and tourism department was among 56 people
arrested Thursday in connection with a Calabrian 'Ndrangheta
mafia probe into suspected bribery and corruption favouring the
mafia.
The former official, 72-year-old Pasquale Anastasi, was placed
under house arrest on charges of influence peddling in favour of
the Mob.
A former regional councillor and businessman, 70-year-old
Francescantonio Stillitani, was arrested on graft and mafia
charges along with his brother Emanuele, 68.
Two former functionaries at the prefecture of Vibo Valentia,
Rocco Gramuglia (54) and Michele Larobina (65), were also
arrested in the probe.
The 56 people were arrested all over Italy, in Catanzaro, Vibo
Valentia, Reggio Calabria, Rome, Palermo, Avellino, Benevento,
Parma, Milan, Cuneo, L'Aquila and Perugia. (ANSA).
