A rightist Brothers of Italy (FdI)
Senator on Thursday filed a bill giving the unborn child
juridical rights, prompting Premier Giorgia Meloni's party to
stress that this was his personal initiative.
The bill submitted to the Upper House by Roberto Menia
recognises the juridical capacity and legal status of the unborn
child.
FdI sources said the bill would not be followed up.
There have been similar sporadic legal bids by conservative and
pro-life MPs in the past, spurring fears for Italy's abortion
laws.
But they have come to nothing.
