The body of a migrant was spotted
Thursday in the sea off Lampedusa, the stepping stone island
between Italy and North Africa, local sources said.
The body was spotted in the waters off the reef of Cala Uccello
on Lampedusa.
Carabinieri police called the fire brigade.
Fire teams and a Coast Guard patrol boat are heading to the
spot.
Migrant deaths between North Africa and Italy rose last year and
NGOs said a new government decree regulating the activity of
their rescue ships would make the Med even deadlier.
