The fifth of seven juvenile jail
breakers who busted out of a Milan youth detention centre on
Christmas Day by climbing down scaffolding and, in one case,
using the classic twisted bed sheet has now turned himself in,
in Milan, Italian police said Wednesday night.
He is an Italian and the oldest of the seven, at the age of 19,
with a criminal record and who boasts other escapes from other
detention centres, the cops said.
A search continues for the remaining two juvenile jail breakers.
Italian police on Tuesday night arrested the fourth escapee, a
17-year-old Morocan boy who was caught in Sesto San Giovanni,
just outside the Lombardy capital.
Three others among the seven - five Italians, one Ecuadorian and
one Moroccan, all aged between 17 and 19 - returned to custody
Monday after two were caught and one gave himself up.
The youths decided, on the spur of the moment, to escape from
the Beccaria Borstal while on the jail's five-a-side soccer
pitch, after scrutinizing the scaffolding.
After their getaway, other inmates started a fire that led to
four guards being taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.
After the incident, Transport Minister and former strongman
interior minister Matteo Salvini vowed to raise security at all
Italian prisons.
Judicial sources said that seven of the youths who rioted and
set fires after the prison break had been moved to other
detention centres in Catania, Bari, Catanzaro, Potenza, Palermo
and Caltanissetta.
