A 51-year-old Italian woman was
arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of murdering her 84-year-old
mother and seriously injuring her 89-year-old father near Padua
on Tuesday morning.
The former traffic cop, Diletta Miatello, has been charged with
the premeditated murder of Maria Angela Sarto and th attempted
murder of Giorgio Miatello.
The woman had returned to her parents' home after splitting with
her husband and becoming unemployed and had had increasingly
violent rows with them, mostly over her continual demands for
money, police said after quizzing the couple's other daughter.
It was this younger daughter who found her parents' mutilated
bodies.
An autopsy has been ordered.
The father is said to be in stable but serious condition in
hospital.
