Transport, interior, and education
ministers as well as Italy's police chief on Thursday
recommended tighter controls and the possibility of making
helmets obligatory for e-scooters in a crackdown aimed at
boosting road safety after a string of fatal accidents involving
the vehicle.
The road safety panel mooted more night-time controls,
prevention schemes in schools, a clampdown on people causing
accidents under the effect of drugs or alcohol, and also
recommended making both helmets and license plates compulsory.
The transport ministry said there might also be a scheme to give
school credits to those who complete prevention courses.
It said all recommendations would be finalized after a meeting
with technical experts next month.
