A wave of bad weather brought
widespread flooding to Italy on Tuesday.
High seas also washed ashore at several points causing damage to
bathing establishments and coastal structures, including at
Ostia on the Roman littoral where a tidal barrier was wrecked.
Flooding in and around Oristano in Sardinia included the centre
of the small town of Bosa where the streets were under water.
There was extensive damage to greenhouses and crops in the area.
A roof caved in near Oristano but no one was hurt.
Strong winds and driving rain again kept ferries serving the
Aeolian Islands in port at Milazzo.
Torrential rain in Abruzzo spurred concern over the Sangro River
breaking its banks.
