Climate activists from the Ultima
Generazione (Last Generation) group on Wednesday staged a fresh
protest against carbon production and use on Rome's ring road,
sitting down in front of cars and holding up banners saying "No
gas, no coal".
Amid a long tailback, motorists reacted "violently", pulling the
activists off the tarmac, the group said.
Ultima Generazione said their aim was to raise awareness on the
need to stop investing in fossil fuels and to accelerate the use
of renewables.
Deputy Premier and Sustainable Infrastructure and Transport
Minister Matteo Salvini said "today on the Great Ring Road...to
'defend the environment' they spoiled the day of thousands of
male and female workers. Shame on you!"
