Francesco Piro, the leader of the
Forza Italia (Fi) caucus in the Basilicata regional assembly,
was arrested on Friday in relation to alleged corruption in the
running of the southern region's health system.
Governor Vito Bardi, meanwhile, is among over 100 people under
investigation in the probe into the construction of a new
hospital kin the town of Lagonegro.
The fact Bardi is under investigation does necessarily mean he
will face charges.
"Yes, we go forward," Bardi replied when asked if he intended to
stay in his job after being put under investigation.
A member of Bardi's executive, Regional Agriculture Chief
Francesco Cupparo (FI), has been banned from residing in the
city of Potenza.
Former regional health chief Rocco leone of the Brothers of
Italy (FdI) party was notified that he is obliged to reside in
Policoro, near Matera.
